HubSpot Pricing Model UKI: 5 Things to Know

HubSpot's New Pricing Model: A Plain-English Guide for UKI Decision-Makers

HubSpot has changed its pricing model for the UKI region. If you're on HubSpot or evaluating it, this affects you.

The old model charged per seat regardless of how much each person actually used the platform. A manager who logged in once a week to check a dashboard cost the same as a sales rep building workflows every day. That was never a particularly fair way to price software.

The new model fixes that. It separates access from capability, introduces free view-only seats, and uses a shared Credits pool for AI and platform features. For most businesses, approached correctly, it is a more accurate reflection of how HubSpot actually gets used.

This post breaks down what has changed and what you should do before your next renewal.

The bottom line: the new model rewards intentional usage. Businesses that audit their setup before renewal will benefit. Those that don't will likely overpay.

What Has Changed

The previous model charged per seat across the board. Every user needed a paid licence, whether they were a power user running complex automations or a director who opened HubSpot twice a month to review a report. There was no distinction between active usage and passive access, which meant most businesses were paying for more than they needed.

The new model splits things into three components:

  • Core Seats: Paid licences for users who actively create, edit and manage within HubSpot
  • View-Only Seats: Free access for anyone who only needs to read data or check reports
  • Credits: A shared pool used to run AI-powered features and certain platform capabilities

The single biggest change is that view-only access is now free. If you've been paying for seats just so managers or executives can check a dashboard, that cost goes away.

The more significant shift for most businesses is Credits. AI features and certain capabilities now draw from a shared Credits pool rather than being bundled into your tier. Your allocation depends on which Hubs you're on and at what tier. You can buy more if you need them.

The Two Seat Types, Explained

Core Seats

Core Seats are for anyone who actually does things in HubSpot: building workflows, managing deals, running campaigns, handling support tickets. If they create or edit, they need a Core Seat.

One detail worth paying close attention to: Core Seats are Hub-specific. A Sales Hub Core Seat gives Sales Hub access. A Marketing Hub Core Seat gives Marketing Hub access. If someone needs both, they need a seat for both. This is where costs can quietly increase if you're not paying attention during renewal.

View-Only Seats

Free. Anyone who needs to see data, review reports or monitor pipeline can have a View-Only Seat at no cost.

The practical question to ask your team: who actually needs to do things in HubSpot, and who just needs to see things? That one exercise alone could reduce your seat count and your renewal cost.

Credits: What They Are and Why They Matter

Credits are the new concept that most decision-makers haven't fully got their heads around yet. Here's the short version.

Credits are a shared budget for platform-level capabilities. They're consumed by:

  • AI features: Breeze AI tools, content generation, predictive scoring
  • Certain outbound communication types that previously had their own send limits
  • Capacity Packs: additional Credits you can purchase if your team's usage exceeds what's included in your tier

Each Hub and tier comes with a set Credits allocation. The exact amount depends on which Hubs you're on and at what tier: Starter, Professional or Enterprise.

When Credits Become a Cost Problem

If your team starts using AI features heavily without anyone monitoring Credit consumption, you'll either hit limits or face additional spend at renewal.

Ask this question now: are we using, or planning to use, AI-powered features in HubSpot?

If yes, you need to understand your Credit allocation and forecast usage before committing to a tier. If no, Credits probably won't affect your costs in the short term. But that will change. HubSpot is embedding AI more deeply into the platform, and Credits are how that usage gets metered going forward.

Credits are not a reason to avoid the new model. They're a reason to understand your usage before you sign anything.

What to Do Before Your Renewal

This is the part that matters most. The model has changed, but the decisions you need to make are straightforward if you approach them in the right order.

  1. Audit your current seat usage. Pull a list of every user in your HubSpot portal. For each one, ask: do they actively create or edit, or do they mainly view data? Anyone in the second category can move to a View-Only Seat at no cost.
  2. Map seats to Hubs. Core Seats are Hub-specific. Work out who needs access to which Hubs. A salesperson who only works in Sales Hub does not need a Marketing Hub seat. This mapping exercise often reveals overspend that has been sitting quietly in the background.
  3. Understand your Credit allocation. Check your current tier and Hub combination against HubSpot's pricing page. If you're using or planning to use AI features, estimate your likely monthly usage and compare it against what's included.
  4. Model your renewal cost. Once you know your actual seat requirements and Credit needs, build a realistic picture of what the new model costs your business. Compare it to what you're paying now.
  5. Review before you renew. Don't let your contract auto-renew without running this exercise first.

Most businesses have at least some seat overprovision. The new model, approached properly, is often a chance to right-size your HubSpot investment. But that only happens if you do the work before signing the renewal.

The Bigger Picture

The new model is more aligned with how businesses actually use the platform. It creates a clearer connection between what you pay and what you consume. That is a better foundation for both HubSpot and its customers, and frankly it is overdue.

The Credits model is also a signal worth paying attention to. HubSpot is building AI into the core of what the platform does. Businesses that want those capabilities will need to plan for the cost. Businesses that don't will be largely unaffected for now, but that window won't stay open indefinitely.

The pricing model shift creates a genuine moment to review how your business actually uses HubSpot. Which users need what access. Whether your current tier and Hub combination still reflects your commercial reality. That review is worth doing regardless of whether the new model increases or reduces your costs.
